Maybe you forgeting about me?

I think maybe you have forgotten about me. No? Also, while reading you are using my voice. Hahahahahahaha!

Stuff - UPDATE

I set up a box.net folder for us. Keep an eye out for a link. Below are some different priests, holy armor, a holy crystal staff, demons, a sacrificial place, and a painting by Turner. I'm not sure what are priest should look like. I'll Photoshop some stuff up as soon as I get home. I have more pics on box.net plus a ton to come. Just some ideas. I thought it would be cool if we could get some kind of armor or something, (hence the armor pic). I also was thinking about the use of weapons, (the power glove, staff, etc) are mystical weapons a one time use? Do they get charged up by killing demons? Can they be destroyed? Do the demons carry some that Tarandel could use? Can we only carry so many? I'm probably jumping the gun like a son of a bitch here. If I am, sorry. I just want to throw ideas out and around. I know we mentioned only a few levels, (to start). So I would imagine that the "grand picture" will not be part of our first release. I'm a bit drunk right now. Enjoying my last couple of days in Texas. When I get back. I'm gonna buckle down hardcore in U3. Cheers.

Different Kind of "Hell"

So I was thinking about the style and feel of our game. Thinking about demons, hell, and things of the sort I automatically picture violent red colors. However, I'm not sure if that's the direction we should take. I came across this picture on Hourences site and thought something like this may fit our game perfectly.

A Different "Power Glove" & A Creepy S.O.B.

Pardon the penis

These are some old school demons. I really dig the look of their faces. Not like the new age style futuristic gaudy crap demons. These are courtesy from http://triplxr.net/art2.htm The site has a breakdown of their business. If we could "shoot" for the older lithograph style demons and monsters, I think it would be much scarier. Without the penis. I'm doing more research on their amulets, trinkets, powers, and rulings, as well as other various forms.

I found Paul Killom's "fuzzy worm"

Here are some pics - just a few...enjoy

Can we have demonic seals?

Well...it kinda started like this...

Remember Programming

Sometimes it is AWESOME!

So things with UDK have been going really good. It started off very slowly but I'm learning it the best I can. I currently have a guy that walks around in a 3rd person view. Right now it's close up to him but we can make it as far away as we like.

To build on Joe's 3rd person puzzle, 1st person shooting idea. I started to make a development that would tell if the player had his gun out. Right now I have the ability to not make him shoot if he's not allowed to. I was thinking of switching the camera when the player pulls out there weapon. In other words there will be a "combat mode" and a "roaming mode". This will switch on and off with the press of a button. If we don't want 1st person I was also thinking we could just zoom in to a closer 3rd person when in "combat mode".

Anyway I'm just rambling. So now is the time to really start thinking about what we want from this game. We should have a list of "abilities" that we need the player to have. Things like climbing, pushing objects, collecting items, flying, doing some crazy dance. We need a list of mechanics. That way I can program them.

I hope all of that made sense...it's late.

UDK Training

So I've been looking around for information on how awesome the UDK is. I've discovered that it is in fact very very awesome. I've just downloaded TONS of videos on how to use it (it's pretty similar to Unreal 3). The main thing is that we can easily make it our own game. I've just run through a tutorial on how to do that. It loads up a custom main menu and starts our own level. I ran into a bit of trouble when I tried to package it for distribution. I'm going to run through the tutorial again because I may have missed something. If I get it to work I'll upload it for you guys to install and see the greatness.

On a side note: Since I'm stuck in Illinois I was wondering if there was some chat thing we could use to talk to each other. Maybe we could set up a time every week and get on that chat to discuss the game. That way we can have instant discussions. Just a thought.

A Small Change

NOTE: All of this is subject to change! Feel free....

Title: Tarandel

Genre: 1st - 3rd person shooter/puzzle

Theme: Realistic/horror/educational

Platform: PC (for now)

- Quick Breakdown -

Main Character: Father Tarandel

Birthdate: Unknown

Organization/Religon: Unknown

Years of Service: Unknown

Note: Not too much is known about Father Tarandel. Keeping it vague allows for a wider "religious" demographic.

Premise: You are a priest on the East coast of the USA. You receive a frantic letter from the Vatican, (possibly some place else) "get here asap...do not delay." Upon arrival, you are informed that hell, (from all religions) is about to take over. Man & woman kind (HA!) have gone to far. The demons and evils are taking their places getting ready to make hell on Earth. You, Father Tarandel, are on a quest to travel around the globe, study different religions, thwart the unholy with relics, spells, and of course...some good ol' fashioned classics. This is all in the efforts to save the world, while learning about, and developing respect, for different religions.

Personal note: I've got some other stuff that I'll add to the post later...chow time.

Sit back, look, imagine, think, and smile!

Ok...

This is killing me! I can't wait 'till Tuesday, I'll pay for the hamburger now damn it! Look at this! This is f!cking sweet! Our indoor balcony's could be the "center of attention." We could have small cube-like quadrants that protrude from the sides, those would represent the floor themes we have already discussed. Obviously the proportions would be a bit different. Just some ideas. By the way...this is not my work...reference pictures from the Internets!

So...

I've got about a million different floor plans right now. There is quite a variety...commercial, offices, laboratories, and a few others. I will bring in all the goods on Tuesday for review.

I have some questions about the general shape of our building. A few of the floor plans have some really cool shapes, (top view). One for example is a channel, (also top view). Others have some pretty interesting layouts. I was thinking, once we have a bit more solid idea of what we want, I could take certain sections of the various floor plans, mold them together, and create a building that has some real feeling.

Also with the different layouts, player paths and flow change drastically. I know we were talking about having holes in the walls and ceilings and such; that is going to alleviate realistic path obstructions, (the Swiss Cheese effect).

I'm doing more research...and drinking an Old Speckled Hen. See y'all on Tuesday. Cheers!

Free Time Begins

Well we finally have some free time to work on what we want to do. Apparently what we want to do is a lot of things at the same time. Things like: Space station, Warehouse, Lab, Caves, Police Station, Church, Sewer, Theme Park, Submarine, Castle, and various other projects.

After a lot of discussion we decided on a project. Project Free Time will be a multiplayer level for Unreal 3. It will take place on the top 5 floors of a skyscraper in New York. This is set in a modern time, however, the polar ice caps have melted and flooded the world. The water comes up to just over the first floor the level will begin at. The skyscraper is pretty damaged in areas and plant life is making it's way up the building.

We are still deciding on other things but this is the basics. We will be shooting for a map that holds around 16 players. We really want to be able to jump from floor to floor with ease. Our plan to do this is by using holes in the floor to get down, and balconies and fire escapes to get up the building. The roof will also be available for the players to fight on. We haven't decided on an art style yet but Joe is going to do some level concepting and get back to us.

If I missed something let me know.
